My Review

4 stars

Michael Winstell transports the reader to Jonesburg, Texas, with stunning descriptions.

I enjoyed this sweet, clean second chance romance between Serenity and her ex-boyfriend Rick. Rick was not the same kid who left for the military four years prior. He matured and became a Christian determined to prove to those he wronged that he was a better man.

The story follows mostly Serenity’s point of view and breaks the mold of a typical romance in that we don’t encounter the hero (Rick) until almost a third of the way through the book. There are a handful of scenes from Serenity’s mom’s point of view, which has me leaning towards calling this a Women’s Fiction rather than a typical romance.

I appreciated the strong faith elements in the book and that the author did not shy away from difficult topics. I think that many readers of sweet, clean, Christian romance will enjoy this book.

My favorite part was the detailed descriptions of the settings. I felt like I was right there alongside Serenity. The author balanced humor with serious moments nicely, keeping the book from feeling too heavy.

I would recommend this to fans of Christian romance and Women’s fiction.

Romance: Squeaky clean. Brief mention of attraction and kissing.

Faith: Strong spiritual arc for both characters as they learn to trust God and each other.
